Students in Action – Save Earth Society’s Project Inspires Young Environmental Stewards

In an inspiring initiative to foster environmental awareness and sustainable action among youth, Save Earth Society has launched a dynamic tree plantation program in schools across Cumilla and surrounding districts. The campaign, titled “Schools in Action for the Green Planet,” aims to engage students in hands-on ecological restoration by planting trees within their schoolyards, playgrounds, and nearby community areas.
The project, now in its second phase, is part of Save Earth Society’s broader goal of planting 25,000 trees in 2025. By turning schools into green learning labs, the organization hopes to cultivate a generation of environmentally conscious citizens who don’t just learn about sustainability—they live it.
Planting Knowledge, Growing Responsibility
The school-based tree planting campaign began with interactive awareness sessions where students learnt about climate change, deforestation, biodiversity, and the crucial role trees play in ecological balance. This was followed by hands-on plantation drives where students, guided by volunteers and teachers, planted native species like neem, guava, and rain trees.
“Children are not just future leaders—they are current changemakers,” said Md Mahamudul Hasan, Founder of Save Earth Society. “By involving them in tree planting today, we are giving them tools to fight climate anxiety and contribute directly to environmental health.”
More than just digging holes and planting saplings, students are also responsible for monitoring the growth of each tree, watering them regularly, and tracking their survival. Schools receive small green toolkits, including watering cans, growth logs, and eco-badges for participating students.

Environmental Education Beyond the Classroom
The initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13 – Climate Action & SDG 15 – Life on Land) and Bangladesh’s National Adaptation Plan. By integrating tree planting with school life, the campaign seeks to:
- Promote experiential environmental education
- Instill a lifelong culture of ecological responsibility
- Enhance school grounds as green, healthy spaces for learning
- Reduce local carbon footprints
In collaboration with local education boards and community leaders, Save Earth Society has already partnered with 15 schools and plans to expand to 50 institutions by the end of the year.
A Call to Join the Green Movement
While Save Earth Society provides seedlings, training, and volunteer support, the organisation calls on individual donors, corporate sponsors, and school alumni networks to help scale this campaign.
With every tree planted, a child plants hope—for a breathable city, cooler schools, and a planet that can heal.
